Mrs.
B Predicts for the Bay Area
Our favorite spiritual guide, Brenda Kelly,
is prognosticating for television. KTVU Channel 2, a FOX affiliate
station in the Bay Area, has launched a new show called Trackside
at Infineon Raceway.
The show features several segments weekly and
offers everything from driver interviews to pit talk; a look
at last weeks race to a prediction for upcoming race. This
is where our darling Brenda comes in. Voiced by Kath Soucie,
a decorated voice-actor, Brenda interprets the signs and announces
the winner…hopefully.
See how right she is at the following times and dates.
Sunday, April 15th 10-10:30am
Saturday, April 21st 4:30-5pm

Nancy Speaks at School for
the Arts
Ms. Cartwright (how teacher-y) visited the Los Angeles County
High School for the Arts on Friday, March 2nd. She spent two
hours talking with students about working as a voice-over
artist. Along the way she discussed the entertainment industry
in general and gave tips on success in “the biz.”
Imagine how cool it would be to have Bart as a teacher. Cowabunga,
Man.
The school is a tuition-free, public high school with a full
academic curriculum and specialized training in the areas
of music, dance, theatre and visual arts. They often have
guest speakers from the various fields of the arts that come
to discuss their successes, their obstacles and their passions
with the students.
Many thanks to Paul Eiding, a dedicated teacher and professional
voice-actor, who is putting together this wonderful mentoring
program.
For more information about the school, visit www.LACHSA.org.
All right, school’s out. Let’s par-tay!
Voice Actors Get an Earful
Nancy works with Jason Canning, one of the attendees
at her V.O. seminar
|
Nancy and special guest Keli Daniels gave a two-hour evening
seminar jam-packed with tips on making it in voice-overs.
The advice ranged from the length and content of a good demo
tape to the ways to recognize and overcome nerves and all
those personal barriers that hold one back from success.
Held in the Garden Pavilion at Celebrity Centre International,
the Making it in Voice-Overs seminar featured career and life
anecdotes from both Nancy and Keli, a lead actor in numerous
on-camera and voice-acting gigs. They discussed what it takes
to get started, stay on course despite all the difficulties,
and throughout they highlighted many of their successful actions
in establishing a career.
Many of the roughly 50 attendees were beginners intent on
making it in the business. This was a rare opportunity to
have personal face-to-face time with top industry pros and
to work at the mike directed by Nancy.
Look for more of these opportunities in the next few weeks
as Nancy and Keli plan to establish a series of these unique
seminars.
Mayor Cartwright Version 2.0 Installed
On
Friday, March 2nd, the power houses of the San Fernando Valley
got together at the Odyssey Restaurant in Porter Ranch for
the annual installation of the North Valley Regional Chamber
of Commerce Board Members. Also on their agenda for the afternoon
was re-installing Ms. Cartwright as the Honorary Mayor of
the North Valley.
Again she raised her right hand and swore to serve her home
city of Northridge and the surrounding communities. Conducting
the mostly-official swearing in was County Supervisor Zev
Yarofslavsky. Also present for the event were Councilman Greig
Smith and keynote speaker Congressman Brad Sherman.
Wayne Adelstein, Chamber President, read the long list of
causes that Nancy has supported in the past two years. These
included the Devonshire PALS, Valley Interfaith Council, Parks
and Rec and the San Fernando Valley Jaycees. He ended by calling
her the “Citizen of the Year.”
Our top hat is off to Honorary Mayor Cartwright!

off the summer as the Honorary Chairperson for the 25th Annual
Salute to Recreation Family Festival. The event, which will
be held from June 1st to the 3rd, highlights the variety of
cultural and recreational activities available to the residents
of the San Fernando Valley.
The three day event will feature 4 stages with live entertainment,
international food booths, a marketplace, a children’s
area, carnival rides and games and much more. The highlight
of the weekend will be the Saturday night fireworks extravaganza
sponsored by the Northridge East Neighborhood Council.
If you are in the area and in the mood for great food and
great fun, join Nancy and hundreds of others in a celebration
of recreational activity and cultural diversity.
An NBA All-Star Weekend
Nancy
spent the weekend of February 18th in the city of sin. No
she wasn’t gambling away her savings. She was there
to see the high-flying, high-scoring NBA All-Star weekend.
Saturday was the high-flying dunk contest. Congrats to the
Celtic Gerald Green who took home the crown with the day’s
only perfect scoring dunk; a windmill over a table.
Sunday Nancy watched Kobe Bryant of the Lakers lead the West
to a victory and capture the MVP title with his game high
31 points.
While in Vegas, she met with friend and professional poker
player Chris “Jesus” Ferguson and others for a
taste of the high-roller’s life. It wasn’t quite
enough to lure her over to the life of a pro poker player,
but was the proverbial icing on the cake of an already fun-filled
weekend.
